FAQ.

Dumpster rental is a necessary service for those that are involved in the construction business. With several standard-setting bodies, such as the environmental protection agency, imposing certain regulations, it is important that one realizes the importance of disposing of waste properly and efficiently.

For those that do not have any previous experience with dumpster rental, here are a few common questions and answers to help one grow familiar with the rental process:

What types of dumpsters are available for rental?

Most dumpsters are the same shape, yet they come in a number of different sizes. Average dumpster sizes are roughly 40 feet in length and 20 feet in width. However, most service providers offer units that can be as long as 100 feet.

The two most common types of dumpsters that are rented include roll-off dumpsters and front load dumpsters. Roll-off dumpsters attach directly to the back of a truck and are essentially “rolled off” at the specific destination. When a consumer is done using the dumpster, it is then reattached to the truck and carried to a landfill. In contrast, front load dumpsters attach to a truck through a latching mechanism. The truck lifts the unit and dumps the waste into a container that is attached to the back of the truck. In most cases, a front load dumpster is more convenient and more affordable.

How far in advance should I order a dumpster?

In most cases, it will take no more than 48 hours for a provider to deliver a dumpster to a site. However, one should always plan ahead to ensure timely delivery. Inventory levels are constantly fluctuating for providers, meaning there is no telling if a certain dumpster will be in stock. It is highly recommended that one place a rental order at least 3-5 days before the dumpster is actually needed. Most web sites have integrated calendars that allow a renter to choose a specific date by which the dumpster should be delivered.

What if I fill the container before the construction project is complete?

If a dumpster is filled before completion of a project, it is usually necessary to call for another dumpster as soon as possible. In most cases, service providers are accommodating and recognize the effectiveness of prompt service. Careful planning should be performed ahead of time to help mitigate the risk of this situation. An additional dumpster will add to the overall cost of the service.

What if I need to keep my unit longer or need to get rid of it as soon as possible?

Keeping a dumpster longer is not an issue at all. As long as the renter is willing to pay the associated dumpster rental prices, providers usually have no problem extending the rental duration. If a dumpster needs to be picked up early, there is no guarantee that the provider will be available to come obtain it. Most providers are looking to minimize transportation costs, meaning that they will usually not make a special trip that is out of the way.
